The Kinnickinnic Backpack Program provides food on weekends during the school year when other resources such as free and reduced-price school lunches are not available. Between March and June 2010, backpacks filled with items from all the food groups were distributed each Friday to 45 children in the River Falls public elementary schools.

Visit us on our Facebook page where you can find updated information about the program, volunteer opportunities, and requests for food and supplies that the program needs. Check it out at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kinnickinnic-Backpack-Program/145734842119520 – you don’t need a Facebook account to access the page. Please pass this link along to anyone you think might be interested in the program.

We are busy getting things ready to start distributing backpacks in the River Falls Public Schools again in September, and we need more volunteers:

- Do you have great organizational skills? We would love to have you manage the volunteer schedule.
- If you think data and record-keeping are fun, please help us track program activity and submit reports.
- This program is made possible only because of generous donations. Fundraising ideas and help are always needed.

If you are willing to help out in any of these areas, please contact me for more information (ourneighborsplace@gmail.com ) or 715-426-9000.

Backpack recipients say:

“…This has helped our family tremendously! Being a single mom of 2 children and working full-time is definitely a handful, let alone not having enough food sometimes. This program has filled in the areas where I was low. Thank you! God bless.”

“…This program has been a wonderful blessing to me and my children. I sincerely appreciate your generosity and kindness to us during this challenging time.”

Help us keep this important resource available to those who need it by sponsoring a family:
$5 provides a backpack that will be filled with food each week.
$10 fills a backpack with food for one month.
$100 fills a backpack with food for the entire school year.

Donations of any amount are greatly needed, appreciated, and tax-deductible.
